Policy

The IRH's policy work is the most diverse area of its activities. It includes:

  • Influencing policy & practice locally, nationally and across the UK
  • Promoting and supporting networking and partnerships
  • Responding to consultations on health, wellbeing and social care issues from a rural perspective
  • Influencing policy makers
  • Raising awareness of resourcing issues for rural health
  • Promoting innovation and good practice
  • Providing information on rural health issues

The IRH circulates a weekly Newsflash to IRH Associates on rural health and wellbeing issues, including the broader determinants of health. The IRH quarterly newsletter is also disseminated widely and the IRH is an active member of a number of networks and partnerships. The IRH also organises Rural Health Week.

Rural Health Forum

The Rural Health Forum has acted as the advisory group for the policy work of the IRH.

The Forum was set up to bring together all aspects of rural health and social care and to act as a focal point for all those working to promote the health and wellbeing of rural communities. The IRH is currently in the process of identifying additional resources to take forward the activities of the Forum.
